Of all the staff at Saylor.org, Devon manages the widest variety of projects. After starting as an intern, he was promoted to the Personnel & Special Projects Administrator position where his main workload focused on the hiring and management of Saylor.org’s diligent Research Assistants, and overseeing the development of Saylor.org’s ePortfolio. Since the summer of 2012, he has transitioned to focus more on new projects, which currently includes fostering partnerships that will allow Saylor students to receive college credit based on Saylor.org’s free OER.
Devon came to Washington, D.C. via Wisconsin and North Carolina – with brief stints in Sweden, Vermont, Prague, and England along the way. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received two degrees: a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Transatlantic Politics, with a focus on International Conflict Management and Prevention. Before coming to work for Saylor.org, Devon dabbled in the field of education, as a high school math tutor before starting his undergraduate degree, a substitute teacher after earning his B.A., and a high school math teacher during graduate school.
When not working at Saylor.org, you might catch Devon doing a bit of reading – he assures us that the Twilight Series will never grace his reading list, but would suggest Catch 22, The World According to Garp, and Devil in the White City, to name a few. If not reading, he is likely either watching or participating in some form of sports, and is particularly fond of playing tennis. Perhaps the ridiculously humid DC summers have scarred Devon, because he secretly hopes that Saylor will expand to have offices in San Diego and Maine, so that he can work all year but will always be somewhere with a very nice climate.
