Josef M. Scarantino

Strategic Technology Manager
Email: josef.scarantino@saylor.org

Josef is Saylor’s Strategic Technology Manager. His duties are best described as a combination of a jack-of-all-trades and fortune-teller with technology, all from a “big picture” perspective. Focusing on research and development, he is always prepared to give expert advice regarding any technology decision-making. He always stays on top of EdTech trends and how they influence the Saylor Foundation’s Free Education Initiative.

Josef was raised in the Midwest, but lived in Northern California for 7 years before moving to DC in 2006. He came to the Saylor Foundation in January 2012 with over 10 years of experience working with technology (mostly in developing countries). His duties have ranged from being a web developer & designer to a nonprofit technology consultant – and not to mention several years working in manufacturing as a CNC machinist. Josef has a BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in Sacramento and is currently finishing up a MA in International Education & Human Development at George Washington University.

In his spare time, Josef produces music, reads books from his ever-growing library, or catches up on Mad Men. He is secretly hoping for a Saylor office to be established in Buenos Aires, his favorite destination south of the border!
