SOC101: Introduction to Sociology

A century and change after emerging as an academic discipline, sociology is still growing and improving its methods, helping us to make concrete our observations of society around us. From the overview: “This course is designed to introduce you to a range of basic sociological principles so that you can develop your own sociological imagination. You will learn about the origins of sociology as a discipline and be introduced to major sociological theories and methods of research.” That’s the nuts and bolts of it, but maybe the imagination will be fired by the title of Unit 2: “Culture, the Socialized Self, and the Individual in Society.”

Pro tip: SOC101 pairs nicely with Philosophy, Psychology, and Political Science courses. Dive in, and let us know what you think!
