Change is nearly upon us: The old testing center at school.saylor.org, which currently serves our set of legacy courses, will close down this coming Wednesday, 26 August, after 10:00 AM EDT (2:00 PM GMT).

Learn.saylor.org, the current courses and testing site, will also be unavailable between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM EDT (2:00 PM and 4:00 PM GMT) for site maintenance.

What this means:

  • Graded quizzes and exams for all legacy courses will no longer be available.
  • Certificates for all legacy courses will no longer be issued (certificates already issued will be recreated as Accredible certificates).
  • Exams for legacy courses will be made available soon in an ungraded format.
  • Effectively, legacy courses will become Saylor-hosted but truly student-directed.
  • Please note: if your course is listed at https://learn.saylor.org, it is a fully-supported course. The only thing you will notice is a ~2 hour maintenance window. If your course is listed at https://legacy.saylor.org, it is a legacy course and the points above all apply.

What you should do:

  • Save or print any specific records (like a quiz or exam attempt) that you want to keep.
  • Complete final exams to earn certificates. Any exams that are closed because you have a recent attempt will open for one more attempt on Monday morning, EDT.

  1. To whom it may concern,

Greetings! My name is Xiaozhou Fan from China, I am enjoying a lot while learning the ME 201: Fluid dynamics. Great work by you and your fellow staff!

However, I can’t help but noticing that that test center for legacy course such as ME 201 is closed, which might cause some problems for I might be able to know how well I’ve absorb the materials. If it is not too much to ask, could you tell me if it is gonna be back online?

    Thanks!
    Xiaozhou Fan

    1. Hello Xiaozhou Fan — greetings back to you from Washington, DC! Unfortunately, we do not have plans to bring the test center back online completely. As I type this, though, my colleague is working to adapt our final exams to a clean Web view.

The positive aspect is that the final exams will be back online soon; the less positive aspect is that certificates for Mechanical Engineering courses (and other “legacy”) courses will no longer be issued. More about legacy courses can be found in our help center here.

  2. I also am taking a class on Saylor Legacy. It is The Victorian Novel. Are you saying that all final exams will be up and available again to use (without certification now of course), or just Mechanical Engineering? Thanks for your time.

    1. Hi Amanda — yes, our plan is to get all the legacy course final exams posted online soon! There are some courses that never had final exams completed for them (perhaps a dozen or so), but ENGL401 is not in that group and does have one!
