Saylor Academy and WOU (Wawasan Open University) have recently partnered to expand learning and career upskilling opportunities for WOU students and its learning community.

Saylor Academy is a non-profit initiative that believes that education should be accessible to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. As part of our mission, we partner with organizations worldwide to help educate communities so they can improve their lives. Saylor partners with universities as well as non-profits, NGOs and government entities, to promote skill development worldwide.

In support of this mission, WOU and Saylor Academy will leverage Saylor Academy’s courses to help students build critical 21st century skills. Value added, stackable credentials are available to complement any degree programme, whether you’re looking for a first job, a promotion, or to start your own business. These open-enrolment courses are accessible to anyone, anytime. Upon completion, students will earn a verifiable certificate that they may display on LinkedIn, share on Facebook or X, or link to from a website or personal portfolio.

Subjects include:

  • Decision-making
  • Leadership and Teams
  • Introduction to R programming
  • Python for Data Science
  • And more

WOU and Saylor both recognize that students, particularly working adults, lead increasingly busy and complex lives. They require flexible education options to balance skill development with work and personal commitments. This partnership allows students to develop skills that are in-demand now for free, further equipping them with a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

“This partnership signals an investment toward skill development and lifelong learning on behalf of employers, non-profits and higher education”, says Jeff Davidson, Executive Director at Saylor Academy. “As economies change more quickly than ever, upskilling opportunities such as Saylor Academy will be critical in supporting lifelong learning and career readiness.”

“This smart collaboration will strengthen our efforts and mission in supporting learners as they progress through programs to develop their professional and academic capabilities,” says Prof Lily Chan, Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor at WOU. “We encourage more learners to take advantage of the wide range of learning courses available to enhance their credentials and skills.”

About Saylor Academy

Saylor Academy is a nonprofit initiative committed to making education accessible and affordable to all who need it. We are doing so by creating free online courses, created by credentialed professors with teaching experience as well as industry-leading credentials. Our courses are available for anyone to take at their own pace, and earn certificates or university credits to help them graduate or gain employment faster, and improve their and their families’ futures. We do not charge institutions to partner with us, and are always looking for like-minded organizations to expand our mission further.
