Dr. Kazin will join us for a panel on Competency Based Education (CBE) as well as for a separate breakout session.

Cathrael Kazin, JD, PhD, known as Kate, is Managing Partner of Volta Learning Group, which specializes in the design, development, and delivery of educational innovation aligned with workforce needs. She served as the founding Chief Academic Officer of College for America (CfA) at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and designed its award-winning, project-centered competency-based model. Kate also served as Project Director for a $4 million First in the World Grant from the US Department of Education to develop “JUICE,” competency-based alternative to conventional developmental education.

Dr. Kazin joined SNHU from ETS, where she led efforts to develop next-generation assessments for 21st-century skills. She holds a PhD in English from Cornell University; a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review; and an AB with Highest Honors in English from Smith College. She has taught widely and was a faculty member at the University of Iowa.
